This afternoon we went on a school outing. Well, actually it only ended up being Kathy and me. Maybe the other students forgot to bring a note from their parents?
We visited a local Butterfly and Insect Museum with an amazing collection of butterflies, moths, and other insects from Honduras and around the world. It was a fascinating place. There are more than 14,000 species - mostly butterflies and moths from Honduras, but with a growing collection of insects from over 120 other countries.
What was really interesting was Robert Lehman, the owner, collector, and Lepidoptera fanatic that showed us around. He's a Mennonite. Yep - one of those VS type boys that came to Honduras with the Eastern Mission Board in the 60's and never quite moved back to the states. Darrin (Honduras MCC Country Rep) had told us to be sure to visit this place and that the owner is a graduate of Goshen College. In fact, Andrew and Amanda (fellow MCCers) had blogged about visiting the museum when they were in La Ceiba for language study. We spent about three hours in the museum as he showed us his collection, explained how he collects and prepares the specimens, and listened to his endless knowledge of butterflies and moths.
And now here is the real kicker: He grew up in Kidron! That's right! As we played the Mennonite (name) game it didn't take long to get to "where you from". He sheepishly said he grew up in a little town in Ohio near Orrville, had we heard of it.... Oh yeah - the world is indeed a small place.

It's amazing how far you travel to be reminded that this world is indeed a small place. That beetle.....shudder....I hope you don't ever find one in your bed!
